Culture and History in and around Tossa de Mar
If you're looking for things to do that involve a little culture, there are plenty of options. The castle in Tossa de Mar is a National Monument, and it and the old town within the walls are some of the most interesting parts of town, and their history is accurately represented in the Municipal Museum.
Further afield, Catalunya is rich with historical and artistic treasures - dolmens and menhirs from prehistory are commonplace, while castles, walled towns, Roman remains and medieval structures abound.
Artistic highlights include Salvador Dali's Theatre Museum at Figueres and his house at Port Lligat, as well as Gaudi's works in and around Barcelona.
Other attractions include the beautifully preserved centre of Girona around the cathedral, the verdant extinct volcanos and medieval towns of La Garrotxa, the wine region of the Empordá and spa towns such as Caldes de Malavella.
